RingConn adds automatic workout tracking & improved reports

RingConn’s long anticipated automatic workout detection is now available to all Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air users. The feature rolls out with firmware version 3.11.0, offering tap-free tracking across a growing list of activities and several new training tools.

Blood pressure tracking is the next big feature in the pipeline. It’s heading into Beta soon, with more news likely in the coming months. In the meantime, the latest update gives the ring some fresh abilities that make it more useful day to day.

Smarter activity capture with less input

Automatic workout detection has also been in testing for a while, but the release is now official and open to all. Once you update both the app and firmware, the feature can be toggled on from Function Management in the RingConn app. From that point forward, workouts that last longer than ten minutes will be recognised automatically. That includes activities like running, cycling and basketball.

The goal here is to eliminate the need for taps or pre-logging. As long as your movement pattern is consistent and sustained, the ring figures it out in the background. It’s not trying to be your full training partner, but it is aiming to fill in those missed sessions that often go unlogged.

New features give more control and insight

RingConn isn’t stopping at detection. You can now manually tag over 60 other activity types to help the algorithm improve. There’s also a new RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) rating option, allowing you to mark the effort of your sessions on a 1 to 10 scale. That rating helps fine-tune calorie burn estimates and improves the personalised effort score.

Workout summaries have also been revamped. After an activity is detected or logged, you get a clean report with heart rate zones, energy expenditure and a time breakdown. It’s meant to be shareable, but also gives a decent visual snapshot for your own tracking. The reports feel closer to what you’d get from a mid-range fitness watch, not just a ring.

Beyond that, you also get the addition of GPS tracking for outdoor workouts. If you’re walking or running outdoors, you can now enable location tracking for accurate distance. Step tracking for outdoor walks is also included, giving better granularity for lighter efforts.

As expected, all of this comes with a battery trade-off. Activating the feature will shave off a day of battery life. The drain increases slightly depending on how long and how often you train.

Only Gen 2 users need apply

Automatic workout detection is only supported on RingConn Gen 2 and Gen 2 Air. The original ring doesn’t have the right hardware, so users of that model will miss out on this round of updates.

RingConn says more activity types are in the works and third-party app integration is still on the roadmap. For now, version 3.11.0 sounds like one you will definitely want to install.

To enable the feature, you’ll need to update your app to version 3.11.0 and make sure your ring is on the latest firmware. After that, go to Function Management and flip the switch.
