Ozlo Sleepbuds are tiny wireless earbuds. They focus on comfort, sound masking and a private in ear alarm, while still letting you stream whatever you want, podcasts, audiobooks or white noise.
The idea is pretty straightforward. Block out noise and give you something calming to listen to so you fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer, even if you are lying on your side. But how well does that actually work?
After a couple of weeks of testing, there are a couple of things that stood out.
Ozlo Sleepbuds: One minute review
Ozlo Sleepbuds are a pretty niche product. You can use them during the day if you want, but they are really built for sleep, not to replace your regular earbuds.
The device relies on passive noise blocking combined with sound masking, so there is no active noise cancellation here. The whole idea is to help you deal with noise at night, something I’ve been dealing with myself lately thanks to noisy neighbours. I’m sure plenty of people can relate.
The buds are tiny and sit almost flush in your ear, so you can wear them all night without really noticing them. Honestly, they are the most comfortable audio enabled headphones I have used for sleep. Add in the sound masking and the option to stream your own content, and you end up with something that does a solid job of blocking out distractions and keeping things under control.
At the same time, this is not a typical earbud experience. The whole system revolves around the Smart Case and it feels a bit different from what you might be used to.
If noise is constantly waking you up at night, these can genuinely help. They are not going to fix everything, but they can make your nights feel a lot quieter. The price is on the high side, but if regular earbuds have not been doing the job for sleep, these are definitely worth considering. They won’t work for everyone, but as a side sleeper with noisy neighbours – this is pretty much the exact product I was looking for.

Design and comfort
Ozlo Sleepbuds are about as small as wireless earbuds get. Each bud is tiny and rounded, designed to sit almost flush inside the ear rather than sticking out. That low profile matters because these are perfectly fine to be worn while lying on your side, with your ear pressed into a pillow. In practice, they feel more like soft earplugs than traditional earbuds.
The buds use silicone tips with small winged fins that help keep them anchored in place overnight. Once inserted and twisted slightly into position, they sit securely without needing much pressure.
I must say, I have experimented a lot with different ear products in recent years. And these are the first earbuds that feel totally comfortable at night. The material is soft and flexible, which helps avoid the hard pressure points you get with standard earbuds. And they stay in place.
Ozlo includes a few different ear tip sizes in the box, so it’s good to experiment. Getting the right fit makes a difference for both comfort and how well the buds isolate noise. Once you dial that in, they pretty much disappear after a few minutes, which is exactly what you want from something you are wearing all night.
In terms of looks, they do not really appear on the outside like a fancy product. It’s more function over form. There are no buttons or touch controls on the buds, which keeps the surface smooth and unobtrusive. The trade off is that you end up relying on the app for pretty much everything, but I’ll get into that in a bit.
Audio and sleep sounds
Make no mistake, Ozlo Sleepbuds are not trying to compete with normal earbuds when it comes to sound quality. The whole point is to create a calm sound environment.
To achieve this, they use passive noise blocking from the silicone tips along with sound masking. So you get a customisable steady background sound that blends in with things like snoring, traffic or whatever else is going on around you.
Also worth knowing, there is no active noise cancellation here. That might sound like a miss, but it actually makes sense. ANC drains more battery. Ozlo keeps it simple instead, relying on a good seal and consistent background audio to make outside noise less noticeable.
You can use the audio in two main ways. The first is through the built in sleep sounds available in the Ozlo app. These include different variations of white noise and nature style soundscapes designed to create a consistent background tone through the night.
Ozlo Sleepbuds*
Order nowThe second option is streaming your own audio. Unlike older sleep earbuds that locked you into a small library of sounds, Ozlo lets you play anything from your phone. Podcasts, audiobooks, music, meditation apps, it all works.
Pairing them for streaming is a bit different from normal earbuds. You cannot just connect them directly through your phone’s Bluetooth settings. That is because the buds do not connect to your phone in the usual way. Instead, they connect to the Smart Case, and the case connects to your phone. The case acts as the middle layer, handling the connection and managing how audio is delivered to the buds.
I’ve actually got into the habit of putting on a YouTube video in the evening. Once it ends, by which time I am fast asleep, the buds switch over to a steady masking sound that runs through the rest of the night. That helps keep outside noise from waking me up in the morning. As mentioned, I’ve got upstairs neighbours with young kids, and things get pretty hectic around 6 or 7am. These have made a real difference.
The audio itself is clearly tuned more for spoken content and ambient sounds than for music. And that is fine. For sleep, that is exactly what you want.
Worth noting is that my setup uses an iPhone with the buds. I have noticed online some users reporting connectivity issues. I have not experienced these. The streaming works fine, the buds connect to the app with no issues. One thing you do need to make sure is that you fit them in the case correctly. If they are even a little bit off, they will not charge or connect to the app. So that’s something to be aware of.
App and features
As mentioned, you control pretty much everything through the app rather than tapping the earbuds. That won’t be to everyone’s liking, but it makes sense given the design. Keeping the buds free of buttons helps with comfort, especially when you are lying on your side.
Having said that, you can use the buds during the day without the app. Just take them out of the case and they will automatically play the masking sound you have last saved.
On that note, a big part of the app are the built in sleep sounds. You can scroll through different background audio designed for overnight listening and send it straight to the buds. You also get controls like volume and sleep timers, so you can have the audio stop after a while if you don’t want it running all night.
The app is also where you set up the private in ear alarm. Instead of blasting a phone alarm, the sound plays directly through the buds. It is a nice touch if you don’t want to wake anyone else up.
There is also some smarter stuff going on in the background. The buds can detect when you have fallen asleep and automatically switch from whatever you were listening to a masking sound or no sound.
And you can track your sleep session stats in detail. This feature is marked as beta, but it worked well in my testing. The stats you get are actually pretty detailed, and the Smart Case adds another layer by tracking things like noise, light and temperature around your bed. It’s not something I see myself using every night – but it does make interesting reading.
Battery life
For me, battery life is one of the highlights of the product. Ozlo Sleepbuds are built to easily last through a full night. The advertised specs for the earbuds are around 10 hours of playback on a single charge, but that depends on how you use them. With my setup, an hour or two of YouTube followed by masking noise through the night, they are typically down to around 45% by morning.
Because the buds don’t connect directly to your phone, they offload some of the connection work to the Smart Case. The case handles the main Bluetooth link, while the buds use a lower power connection between themselves and the case. This setup is designed to be more power efficient
This means that whatever your bedtime routine, these Ozlo should be able to keep running until morning. Battery life is not something you need to worry about.
The buds recharge inside the Smart Case, which also stores additional power. The case provides roughly another 30 hours or so of extra listening time. You place the buds back in the case during the day, they recharge automatically and they are ready again for the next night.
Real-world sleep experience
As you can probably tell from this review, one of the biggest highlights for me, aside from battery life, is just how comfortable these are in bed. You barely notice them, which is exactly what you want from something sitting in your ears for seven or eight hours. As a side sleeper, I usually find earbuds either fall out or become uncomfortable after a while, and that ends up messing with my sleep.
The sound masking also works pretty well. It is not perfect, but the silicone tips already block some external noise, and the background audio helps smooth out sudden disturbances. Instead of sharp changes in noise, everything feels more consistent. That makes it less likely you will be woken up by things like upstairs neighbours, traffic or someone moving around next to you. In that sense, it works better at night than during the day.
For me, Ozlo buds fit really nicely into my bedtime routine. I usually start with a podcast or a YouTube video, which helps me drift off, and then the background sound takes over and keeps things steady through the night.
As for the app, it is well put together, but I would still prefer a way to pair the buds directly to the phone without it. So it is not perfect. Still, it is a trade off I am happy to make for a better night’s sleep.
