Wahoo has added live ventilation training zones to the ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3. The new feature uses data from Tymewear’s VitalPro chest strap to show how hard a rider is working based on breathing rather than power or heart rate alone.

The two companies announced their partnership in June, and Wahoo’s first supporting firmware allowed its latest bike computers to display and record raw breathing data. The latest update finishes the job by turning those measurements into personalised zones that cyclists can follow during a ride.

Breathing zones are now live

Firmware build 302661 was released on July 28 for the ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3. According to Wahoo’s official ELEMNT firmware notes, the update adds ventilation training zones for Tymewear VitalPro users.

Wahoo app version 6.89.0 has also arrived on iOS and Android, providing the controls needed to configure those zones. Riders first complete a threshold test through Tymewear and then enter the resulting values in the Wahoo app before assigning them to their preferred cycling profiles.

Once everything is set up, the bike computer can show the rider’s current ventilation zone with a colour-coded background. Other available fields include breathing rate, tidal volume, minute ventilation and the amount of time accumulated in each zone.

The post-ride summary on the ELEMNT includes a simple graph showing the proportion of the session spent in each zone. Wahoo’s detailed Tymewear setup guide confirms that the underlying respiration data is also written to the FIT file and can be sent to the Tymewear app for further analysis.

There is currently no equivalent ventilation summary inside the Wahoo app’s activity history. The information therefore appears on the ELEMNT immediately after a ride or inside Tymewear once the completed activity has synchronized.

Another way to judge effort

Most cyclists use heart rate, power or a combination of the two to control workout intensity. Ventilation zones offer a different view by looking at how the body’s breathing changes as effort increases through aerobic and anaerobic thresholds.

Wahoo says breathing responds more quickly to changes in effort than heart rate. It could therefore provide earlier feedback when a rider increases the pace, although the usefulness of that guidance will depend on the accuracy of the VitalPro sensor and the quality of the initial threshold test.

The new feature also shows how far Wahoo’s cycling platform has advanced. Current models are increasingly becoming hubs for specialised physiological sensors rather than simply recording speed, distance, power and heart rate.

There are some limits to keep in mind. Wahoo only lists the ACE, BOLT 3 and ROAM 3 as compatible, while the $299 VitalPro uses separate breathing and heart-rate sensors that must both be paired with the ELEMNT.

The hardware cost and extra setup will keep this fairly specialised for now. Still, cyclists already using Tymewear finally have the complete integration promised in June, with breathing data converted into something they can act on while riding.

CYPLORE is trying to solve one of the biggest problems with e-bike conversion kits. It adds electric assist to existing road and gravel bikes while keeping the weight down.

The project has just launched on Kickstarter with prices starting around $599 for the FLEX version and $779 for the ready-to-ride ONE wheel setup. The pitch is simple enough. Give riders extra help on climbs and long rides without turning a lightweight carbon bike into something that suddenly feels heavy and awkward.

A very different kind of e-bike conversion

Most conversion kits end up changing the personality of the bike. You usually get a bulky mid-drive motor, a large external battery and extra weight that changes handling even when the system is switched off.

CYPLORE is clearly trying to avoid that. The motor sits inside the rear hub while the battery disguises itself as a bottle mounted in the standard cage position. There is also a small wireless remote that docks neatly onto the setup. From a distance, the bike still looks mostly normal.

That low profile approach is probably the most interesting thing here. Plenty of cyclists still resist full e-bikes because they either dislike the added mass or simply do not want their expensive road bike turning into something visually cluttered. CYPLORE seems aimed directly at those riders.

The quoted 1.7kg total system weight is also unusually low for this category. That includes both the motor and battery. The battery itself weighs roughly 800g and delivers a claimed 50km assisted range from its 111Wh capacity. USB-C charging is supported and the company says a full recharge takes around an hour.

The ride feel will decide whether this works

CYPLORE says the system uses a torque sensor that adjusts assistance based on pedalling effort in real time. Push harder and the support increases. Ease off and the motor backs away. The company also says the built-in clutch fully disengages the motor when assistance is not active, removing drag resistance from the wheel.

That last part is important because some lightweight hub systems still feel slightly sticky when riding without power. Road cyclists tend to notice those things immediately. If CYPLORE has genuinely managed a near invisible ride feel, that could end up being the real selling point rather than outright speed or power.

The system is rated at 250W and targets modern road and gravel bikes using 142x12mm thru-axles. Compatibility includes most Shimano and SRAM drivetrains.

Two versions depending on how much flexibility you want

The ONE version is the simpler option. It arrives as a complete rear wheel with the motor already built in. Riders swap out their existing rear wheel, attach the bottle battery and ride away within a few minutes.

FLEX takes a different approach. Instead of a complete wheel, buyers receive the hub motor and build it into their own preferred wheel setup. That will probably appeal more to experienced cyclists who already have favourite rims or very specific wheel configurations.

CYPLORE also splits its setups into road and gravel variants. The road rims support 25 to 32c tyres while the gravel option stretches from 32 to 55c.

There is app connectivity too. The system connects to cycling computers over ANT+ and syncs activities to Strava through the CYPLORE app. Riders can monitor battery levels, switch assist modes and view ride history from the app itself.

A familiar Kickstarter balancing act

Like many cycling hardware projects, CYPLORE sits somewhere between exciting concept and wait-and-see territory.

The company says it already has working prototypes and has completed performance testing. It also claims the founding team includes engineers and former staff from Samsung, Xiaomi, Alibaba and e-bike system companies.

Still, Kickstarter hardware campaigns always carry some uncertainty. Manufacturing delays, supply chain problems and shifting timelines remain common across the category. CYPLORE currently estimates deliveries for November 2026.

Price: $599 and up

Raised: $333,474 of $10,000 goal

Estimated delivery: November 2026
33 days to go before campaign closes

Isinwheel has a few deals running right now across the GT1 Dual Motor Off Road Electric Scooter, GT2 Pro Off Road Electric Scooter and Dremax Commuter Ebike. Also on sale is the U4 Foldable Step-thru Electric Bike, which throws a more compact and budget-friendly option to the mix.

You can check all the current Isinwheel offers here.

The power option up front

The Isinwheel GT1 Dual Motor Off Road Electric Scooter 1600W is the one that leans into power. You get two 800W motors, a 48V 13Ah battery and a quoted range of up to 35 miles. It sits on 10 inch all terrain tyres and supports up to 330lbs, so it is clearly built for more than short city hops. This thing is aimed at riders who want stronger acceleration and a bit more confidence on uneven ground.

The 6% discount code ISW6% applies here, and it runs for a long time. What’s more, right now the scooter is selling for £569 on the site, down £190 from its usual price. So quite a big drop.

isinwheel® GT1

A middle ground scooter

The Isinwheel GT2 Pro Off Road Electric Scooter 1200W sits between the two. It runs a 1200W motor and adds a removable 48V 15Ah battery, which is probably its most useful feature day to day. The quoted range is 37 miles and charging takes around 5 to 7 hours, so it edges slightly ahead of the GT1 on range while trading off some motor output.

isinwheel GT2

That removable battery makes a difference if you do not want to move the whole scooter just to charge it. It also makes it easier to top up indoors, which can matter depending on where you store it. It uses the same ISW6% code as the GT1. Right now this one is selling for £539 on the site, down from the usual £799.

The ebike stands apart

The Dremax Commuter Ebike is a sensible part of the Isinwheel. It uses an 864W motor paired with a 720Wh Samsung battery, with a claimed range of up to 93 miles. That number depends heavily on how you ride, but even with real world variation it is clearly built for longer trips and daily use.

Bigger 27.5 inch tyres and the ebike format make it more suited to commuting and mixed terrain rather than quick bursts. It should feel more stable over distance, especially compared to standing on a scooter for longer rides.

The Dremax gets a simple £70 discount with the Dremax70 code. This is in addition to the £200 off the price it is selling right now (£1,199 down from £1,399).

Dremax Commuter Ebike

Another ebike worth considering

Those three described so far are the current hot sellers. But there is another device in the mix that is also on sale.

The Isinwheel U4 Foldable Step-thru Electric Bike 500W is down to £439 from £629, which puts it in budget territory for a folding ebike. The 6% discount code ISW6% applies here, as well.

The U4 is a bit different from the Dremax. It is lighter, more compact and built around convenience rather than long range riding. You get a 500W motor and a quoted range of up to 55 miles, which is enough for shorter commutes and everyday errands without needing something as large as a full size ebike.

isinwheel U4

I recently reviewed the U4 and it comes across as a very accessible entry point into electric bikes. The folding step through frame makes it easy to store and carry, which is a big part of its appeal if you are tight on space or mixing transport modes. It is not trying to compete with higher end models on power or battery size, but it does not need to.

In day to day use, the focus is clearly on simplicity. It is the kind of bike you can just hop on without overthinking settings or modes. That makes it a solid option for casual riders or anyone who wants something straightforward for getting around, especially at the current discounted price.

The Garmin Edge 1050 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated cycling tech releases of the year. After Garmin inadvertently leaked images of the device on their Taiwanese website, we now have more evidence suggesting an imminent launch. Perhaps in the coming days.

Retailer listing confirms price

As originally spotted by FitnessTrackerTest, Tacoma Bike & Ski, an online retailer, briefly listed the Edge 1050 on their website. This confirmes the rumored price of $699.99. A “Device Only” label hints at a potential bundle option for $799.99, likely including additional sensors or accessories.

The timing of these leaks coincides with two major cycling events. The first is the Tour de France, starting June 29th, and then there’s Eurobike, opening its doors on July 3rd. These events provide a perfect platform for Garmin to unveil the Edge 1050 to a global audience of cycling enthusiasts and industry professionals.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Also, it is worth noting that Garmin often has product releases on Tuesdays. So don’t be surprised if we get the official reveal tomorrow. Wednesday, the 26th, is also a realistic option as one of the leaked images of the device shows that date.

Recap of expected upgrades

Building on the success of its predecessor, the Edge 1040, the Edge 1050 is rumored to offer several significant upgrades:

New angular design: opinions are actually divided as to whether this is an upgrade or a downgrade!

A higher-resolution display: A LCD screen with improved resolution (800 x 480 pixels) enhances navigation and data visibility.

Other hardware upgrades include a rumored built-in speaker for voice navigation, a larger 64GB memory capacity.

Garmin Pay integration: This convenient feature allows for contactless payments directly from the device.

You can read more about the expected upgrades on this link.

Of course all of this is unofficial as Garmin has yet to officially confirm a release date. But the mounting evidence suggests the Edge 1050’s debut is just around the corner. Stay tuned for further updates. As we approach the Tour de France and Eurobike, where we’ll likely get our first official look at this highly anticipated GPS bike computer.

Leaked images of the Garmin Edge 1050 reveal a new design, potential LCD display, and more. Is a June 26th launch date on the cards?

The cycling forums are abuzz with excitement following a series of leaked images showcasing what appears to be the new Garmin Edge 1050 GPS bike computer. These images, originating from various sources including a cached version of the Garmin Taiwan webpage, offer a glimpse of what could be a significant redesign and feature upgrade for Garmin’s flagship cycling device.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

Disclaimer: The images discussed in this article are not hosted on this website and are linked to their original sources. Should they be removed from those sources, they will disappear from this article as well.

New design: Edgy, but not everyone’s cup of tea

The most striking change of the Edge 1050 is its new angular design. While some may appreciate the modern aesthetic, others find it less appealing than the previous model. Some on social media are even saying the device is quite ugly looking. As always, opinions will be divided.

The leaked images suggest the Edge 1050 will retain the three standard hardware buttons (one on the left side and two on the bottom). Furthermore, some rumors suggest additional touch-sensitive sliders for zooming.

A major improvement has to do with the display.

The leaked images strongly suggest a departure from the transflective MIP display used in previous models. Speculation points towards either an AMOLED display, similar to the Garmin Epix watch and Forerunner 965, or a high-resolution LCD screen. Most likely, the latter.

A boost from 470 x 282 pixels to 800 x 480 pixels would be a welcome improvement, enhancing readability and potentially sacrificing some battery life. To remind, the Edge 1040 comes with a display packing a resolution of 282 x 470 pixels.

Battery life and other hardware upgrades

The new design and potential display upgrade raise questions about battery life. Rumors suggest the Edge 1050 may offer around 20 hours of use, a decrease from the Edge 1040 but still respectable. Solar charging appears unlikely based on the leaked images. So we may be limited to just a non-solar variant.

Other hardware upgrades include a rumored built-in speaker for voice navigation, a larger 64GB memory capacity (double that of the Edge 1040 non-solar), and the potential inclusion of Garmin Pay NFC functionality. The device’s dimensions are rumored to be 60.2 x 118.5 x 16.3mm with a weight of 161 grams and IPX7 water resistance.

One leaked image showcases a GroupRide navigation route, suggesting this feature may receive more attention in the new model. Of course, Garmin could have some other software upgrades in store.

Launch date: June 26th?

One intriguing detail in the leaked images is a group ride marked for June 26th. Could this be a hint of a launch on that date? Possibly. Considering there have already been some retailer leaks, the device will likely land very soon at or around the $700 price point.

While these leaks offer an exciting preview, it’s important to remember that these are unconfirmed details. We eagerly await official information from Garmin to confirm the final details.

Beeline has recently launched the Velo 2 bike computer. It marks a significant evolution from its 2017 predecessor, introducing a vibrant IPS LCD screen, enhanced navigation features, and a commitment to sustainability.

Beeline’s Journey in Bicycle GPS technology

In 2017, London-based Beeline made its foray into the world of bicycle GPS with the launch of its first-generation Velo, a device that quickly distinguished itself through its simplicity and user-friendly approach to navigation. The original Velo was a standout product, primarily because it pared down GPS navigation to its most fundamental elements. By steering clear of complex functionalities, it focused on delivering clear, straightforward guidance, which resonated strongly with cyclists who preferred a no-frills approach to their rides.

Velo 2

The design of the first-generation Velo was a testament to the power of minimalism. It featured an e-paper display, which was not only energy-efficient but also highly readable under various lighting conditions. This display showed just a simple arrow, pointing cyclists in the right direction, a feature that was widely appreciated for its clarity and ease of use.

The Velo’s emphasis on simplicity over data-heavy features made it a favorite among cyclists who valued a more intuitive and distraction-free riding experience. Its minimalist and user-friendly design was about creating a more enjoyable and focused cycling experience.

Introducing the Beeline Velo 2: A Leap in functionality

Fast forward to seven years later, and the Beeline Velo 2 stands as a refined, more sophisticated version of its predecessor. While it retains the core minimalist ethos that defined the original Velo, the Velo 2 brings to the table a host of enhancements that cater to a broader spectrum of cycling needs.

Transitioning to an IPS LCD screen, the Velo 2 offers a clearer, more dynamic display, a significant step up from the original’s e-paper screen. This upgrade improves the overall user experience, making navigation and data visibility much easier under various lighting conditions. The Velo 2 also steps up its game by including basic metrics like distance, ride time, and speed, addressing the needs of performance-focused cyclists who like to keep track of their riding statistics.

Velo 2

In addition to these features, the Velo 2 enhances its social and interactive capabilities by allowing cyclists to plan and share routes, particularly with its integration with Strava. This feature adds a new dimension to the device, making it not just a tool for navigation but also a platform for community engagement and social interaction among cyclists.

Final word

All in all, this sounds like a decent upgrade on the first generation device. Best of all, this is not a bike computer that costs an arm and a leg.

The design of the Velo 2 also speaks volumes about Beeline’s philosophy. The company has taken significant strides in ensuring that the device is not only functional but also sustainable. The Velo 2’s carbon and plastic-negative design is a clear nod to the growing environmental consciousness among consumers, particularly in the cycling community. Furthermore, Beeline’s commitment to durability and repairability underlines a dedication to long-term product sustainability, a move that is both eco-friendly and consumer-friendly.

The Beeline Velo 2 is available for purchase now with a RRP of $100. Check it out on Amazon.

Safety is the cornerstone of cycling, and the Virgo helmet is stepping up to meet this need. Tailored specifically for e-bike riders, the helmet’s design is a great blend of safety and performance. It offers full facial protection in the event of a head-on collision without compromising on style, weight or ventilation.

With the increasing popularity of electric bikes, the need for enhanced safety measures has never been greater. E-bikes, or electric bicycles, are a fantastic option for those who want to commute in a more eco-friendly way. They are also great for those who may need a little assistance due to age or physical limitations.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

They offer the convenience of traditional bicycles but with the added benefit of an electric motor to assist with pedaling. This means you can travel longer distances, tackle tougher terrains, and arrive at your destination without being drenched in sweat. However, the increased speed that e-bikes can reach necessitates a higher level of safety, which is where the Virgo helmet comes in.

Designed for enhanced safety

The helmet is constructed from a polycarbonate shell with a protective layer of EPS. This combination providing a balance of protection and lightness that keeps up with your activities. It’s designed around the new European regulation NTA-8776, which is made for high speeds up to 45 km/h (28 mp/h), and also complies with regular bike regulations EN 1078/CPSC.

On the front of the thing is a visor, securely fastened by two fixtures. It comes with interchangeable lenses to adapt to various weather and visibility conditions. A removable rear LED light is placed at the back of the head. It makes you more visible to drivers, keeping you safer than ever before.

The helmet also features something called the Multi-Impact Protection System (MIPS). This is a technology designed to reduce the rotational motion transferred to the brain in the event of a crash, thus reducing the risk of brain injury. Coupled with the helmet’s full-face design, this product provides enhanced protection beyond what traditional bike helmets offer.

Designed for all types of two wheeled vehicles, the Virgo helmet is not just about safety. It’s also about style. Available in four colours this is something designed to seamlessly fit into your daily life. Its unisex look and feel blends soft curves and sharp edges, providing modern and iconic protection that pairs well with any outfit and can integrate effortlessly with your bike’s style.

The Kickstarter project has been doing well since its launch. With two days left in the campaign, some €250,000 have been raised by 1,902 backers. A pledge of €90 will get one of these delivered to your doorstep in August. The device follows eight successful Kickstarter campaigns by its creators, who are committed to providing innovative and reliable products to the cycling community.

LIVALL has opened up a crowdfunding campaign for the next generation BH51M NSO smart helmet. The device is safer, more intelligent and lighter than anything else the company has in its range.

Smart helmets have gained in popularity in recent years. In addition to protecting you in the case of an accident, these types of products slap on a host of other functionality. Which over 1 million customers, LIVALL is one of the best known names and a pilot in this space. It launched its first smart helmet in the now distant 2014.

The latest product from the outfit is the BH51M NSO smart helmet. The company has turned to Kickstarter to raise funds for manufacturing and promote its latest offering.

Comprehensive safety features

We all know that riding a bike comes with risks, particularly in urban settings. So let’s start off with safety features.

The gizmo has a total of 53 built-in LED lights so drivers on the road and pedestrians can see you from all angles. The intensity of lights adjusts automatically depending on the time of day helping to preserve battery life and keep you visible.

Essential reading: Top fitness trackers and health gadgets

There’s a gravity acceleration sensor inside capable of picking up on deceleration. The helmet will then activate the front and rear lights for 8 seconds. Other lights will be activated when you press the turn signal button on the bar-mounted remote controller. That means you do not need to lift your hands off the handlebar to safely indicate turns.

Rounding off the safety features is a patented SOS alert and fall detection system. If the helmet determines you have had an accident, an SMS alert will be set to your preset lists of emergency contacts containing your GPS location. This will be fired off after 90 seconds which gives you enough time to switch off the alert before it goes out, if needed.

Great sound by JBL

Another big selling point of this product is its open ear speaker system with sound by JBL. For those not in the know, this is one of the worlds most renowned audio makers. This is actually the only smart helmet manufacturer that has integrated JBL technology. You can use audio to make calls, listen to music or navigation instructions, access your smartphone’s voice assistant service.

Lightweight, adjustable, water-resistant

The helmet itself is adjustable, lightweight (only 480 grams) and waterproof (IPX4). It comes with a dial-fit wheel to ensure everything is held firmly in place.

LIVALL says they’ve designed the product for long rides. You can get up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge which should suffice for even the longest of day trips. The helmet also comes with an anti-loss alarm which kicks in if the distance between the helmet and a paired smartphone exceeds 20 meters.

All of this makes the LIVALL BH51M NSO quite a feature-packed product. It is therefore no surprise that, with a couple of weeks to go, the campaign on Kickstarter has raised more than $200,000.

A pledge of $129 will see one of these delivered to your doorstep in September. This is quite a big saving on the $219 the product will sell for after the official launch.

Price: $129 and up

If you’re ready for a bike upgrade it doesn’t get much better than the Reevo. It comes with everything you’d want from an electric bike including automatic lights, comprehensive safety features and built-in GPS.

The pandemic has intensified sales of bikes as people are looking for alternative ways to travel. Let’s face it – noone wants to be stuck on a crowded subway right now if they can avoid it. It is also an eco-friendly solution that helps with air quality improvements.

Essential reading: Best fitness trackers and health gadgets

The stats speak for themselves. Sales of bicycles in the US grew by 65% last year. And while this is impressive, it is much less impressive than the 145% increase of electric bike sales during the same period. This growth is only expected to intensify in the coming years, particularly in cities.

It is clear the popularity of bikes with an electric motor is on the rise. They make even long commutes a relaxing and sweat-free experience and are equipped to power over all types of terrains and inclines.

The Reevo electric bike

You could say that Reevo is the Rolls Royce of electric bikes. It pushes the limits of engineering, taking advantage of the latest advances in technology.

It’s no wonder that Reevo has raised more than 200% of its rather modest $50,000 funding goal in less than 15 minutes following the Indiegogo campaign launch. Right now the total raised stands at over $5 million.

So what is it that makes it so popular?

Design

Starting with looks, the sleek looking Reevo is totally hubless. This makes it very unique, unlike anything else out there.

The wheels and tires are centerless. There are no spokes, no transparent centre. Nevertheless, the company says the bike is extremely safe and can carry weight up to 265lbs or 120kg. Not to waste any space, there are even storage hooks attached to the wheel itself!

The thick aluminium alloy body with a sleek stealth black finish makes it look a bit more bulky than the typical bike. But this has the advantage of being built around a strong but lightweight core. The whole thing does look very futuristic!

Reevo comes with a few features to enhance your safety on the road. It packs a bright headlamp, built-in turn signals and tail light (800 lumens). There’s also an ambient light sensor, which can detect outside conditions and turn the lights on and off automatically.

Security

Security is a strong point of the Reevo. The thing comes with a triple level anti-theft system which is designed to ensure the bike remains yours.

One touch fingerprint sensor: this allows for keyless access. No need to attach chains or locks, you can secure your bike at the press of a button. The biometric authentication looks to be is very cool. It unlocks the bike in one second.

Built-in wheel lock: this is a security system that is built into the bike’s frames preventing the wheels from turning. So no access for bolt cutters.

Built-in GPS with motion detection and geofencing: The electric bike has a microchip with a GPS module inside its frame. This automatically monitors for movements and will send you alerts when triggered. It is extremely difficult to remove without cutting the frame, so you’ll always be able to locate the bike on a map inside the Reevo smartphone app at any time.

Performance and battery

Of course, Reevo comes with everything else you’d expect from an electric bike. There’s a 750W motor inside that can go up to 25mph. This comes with Class 2 throttle and pedal assist which provides tailored assistance depending on the road gradient. An alternative is to use the handlebar throttle for manual control.

The 48V, 10.5Ah battery is detachable so you can carry it with you for easy charging. The internal security system has a hidden second battery with a standby time of 10 hours – ensuring the safety of your bike while the main battery is charging.

When the battery is empty it takes about 3 hours to fully refuel. This will keep you going for about 37 miles, which compares well to most of the competition. There’s even a little USB port so you can charge your smartphone on the go.

Release date, price and availability

According to project updates, delivery is on schedule for the end of this year. There’s still time to get in and join more than 2,300 backers.

At $2398, it isn’t exactly cheap, but it is one of the most feature-packed bikes around. Also, you can get it now at 34% off the final retail price. The bike comes with a 1 year warranty from the date of shipping.

LIVALL is raising funds on Indiegogo for the EVO21 smart helmet. It comes with a comprehensive set of LED lights with stop and turn signals, a patented SOS system, along with a durable yet comfortable build.

This is a well known company which has been manufacturing smart helmets including some for skiing, mountain biking and cyclists for the past 7 years. In this time it has grown to be the industry-leading smart helmet provider.

Now the outfit is launching the next generation smart helmet and has turned to Indiegogo to raise funds and awareness of the product. In the short time that it has been on the platform, the LIVALL EVO21 Smart Helmet has raised over $300,000. This is well above what has turned out to be a rather modest $10,000 goal.

The smart helmet comes full to the brim with advanced features. It has been designed to go much further than just protecting you in case of a crash. Its aim is to prevent accidents before they happen.

Comprehensive set of LED lights

To this end the EVO21 packs a comprehensive set of auto-brightness LED warning lights. This includes a 270° rear light with higher lumens that maximizes your visibility from long ranges. There’s a multi-color front light with a 45° reach, so even if you tuck your head the light will be visible.

A smart brake warning light and turn signals are there to let drivers around you know what you will do next. These are connected to accelerometer sensors which automatically signal when you are slowing down or stopping.

This is combined with a remote on the handlebar which you can use to communicate to the LEDs whether you are turning left or right. Much safer and quicker than signaling with your arms.

It’s the same type tech that is built into automobiles and motorcycles. The company says the helmet is brighter and lighter than anything else on the market today.

SOS alert system

It is also safer. EVO21 comes with fall detection and SOS smarts. In the unfortunate case you experience a fall, it will send a text message to your emergency contact. The notification provides them with your exact location thanks to a GPS signal obtained from your smartphone. All of this is done automatically, so no need for you to press any buttons.

LIVALL says the tech can detect falls anywhere above 1.5 meters. A text message will be sent within a minute and a half after you experience the accident. This gives you time to switch it off in case of false emergencies. For example if you drop your helmet and do not need any help.

The customization of emergency contacts is done through the smartphone app. This has fitness tracking, route tracking and a battery indicator. The LIVALL Riding App also connects you to a riding community so you can link up with others.

Durable and comfortable build

Of course, build is the most important part of a helmet that is meant to protect you. The company is very serious about this aspect and has passed rigorous safety standard tests with an A-star rating.

To this end the ultra-lightweight (350 grams) EVO21 comes with a top protective PC shell. This is combined with an EPS impact-absorbing liner and a lower protective PC shell.

The impact protection is enhanced by a dual-protection system. The first layer is made of PC material that distributes evenly the force of an impact through the helmet. The second is made of Polysource PSI. Its purpose is to absorb the remaining pressure and keep it away from your head.

There’s also a layer for comfort. It is made of memory foam to ensure a snug fit which is just what you need for those long bike journeys. To keep you cool, the helmet packs an aerodynamic ventilation design and increased venting area.

All of this comes with an IPX5 water-resistance rating. Which means the smart helmet and its lighting system will work just fine in most weather conditions, including rain. Having said that, the company does not recommend you ride on a rainstorm day.

Battery life is a pretty decent 10 hours on a single charge. For a typical cyclist that should last about a week.

Price and availability

The LIVALL team has already started turning their prototype into a finish product. With a number of smart helmets under its belt, they’ve got lots of experience in this sort of thing. In fact they ship an incredible 200 thousand helmets across the globe each year.

The LIVALL EVO21 is the latest and greatest smart helmet created by the company to date.
