Ultrahuman rings up new features: Sleep Debt, Body Signals & Morning Alertness
Ultrahuman continues to stand out with its constant stream of updates. The company’s smart ring, already a favourite amongst the health-conscious, has just received a few more upgrades. These include: Sleep Debt, Body Signals, and Morning Alertness. Let’s dive deep into the new additions. And don’t forget to check out our full hands-on review of Ultrahuman Ring Air.
Sleep Debt: A fresh start every week
Sleep is a crucial component of our overall health, yet it’s often the first thing we sacrifice in our busy lives. Ultrahuman’s new Sleep Debt feature aims to address this common issue. It is something that already exists on Whoop and Garmin watches.
What you get is a visual representation of your sleep patterns. The app does this by comparing the amount of sleep required for optimal functioning with the actual duration of sleep achieved. This information is presented in an easy-to-read chart, allowing users to quickly gauge their sleep health at a glance.
What sets Ultrahuman’s Sleep Debt feature apart is its weekly reset mechanism. Unlike other sleep tracking apps that may accumulate sleep debt over extended periods, potentially leading to discouragement, Ultrahuman’s approach offers a fresh start every week. This prevents the overwhelming feeling of having to make up for months of sleep deficit. It allows users to “write off” past weeks and start afresh with new intentions.
A good approach or not? We’re not sure. But the feature itself is very useful.
Body Signals: Your body’s voice, decoded
Ultrahuman describes Body Signals as “your body’s voice” that they’re helping you understand better. This feature leverages advanced algorithms to identify new patterns and trends in your biomarkers. It generates signals when you hit a new streak or when there’s a notable trend in your health data.
For example, Body Signals might alert you to a consistent improvement in your resting heart rate over time, indicating enhanced cardiovascular health. Or it could highlight a pattern of increased stress levels during certain days of the week, prompting you to examine your routines and make necessary adjustments.
Morning Alertness: Quantifying your wake-up call
The journey from sleep to full wakefulness is a complex process that varies greatly between individuals. Ultrahuman’s Morning Alertness feature, introduced a few weeks ago, aims to quantify this transition, providing users with insights into their daily wake-up experience.
Each morning, users are presented with a metric representing the time it takes to become fully alert after waking. This value is expressed in minutes, with a lower number indicating a quicker transition to alertness. The goal is to achieve a lower value over time, signifying more efficient and refreshing sleep.
Ultrahuman says the metric takes into account various factors that can affect your wake-up experience, including: motivation levels, sleep habits and your sleep environment. This data can be used to optimize sleep routines, adjust wake-up times, or modify the sleep environment for improved energy levels and productivity.
Looking Ahead: Paid Features and Commitment to Core Functionality
As Ultrahuman continues to expand its feature set, the company is preparing to introduce paid features to its platform. Set to be officially announced on July 16th, these new offerings will likely include access to advanced health monitoring tools such as Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM), blood testing, and some third-party power plug-ins.
The company has assured that all core features of the platform will remain free for both existing and new users. This approach ensures that all users can continue to benefit from the essential health tracking and insights that have made Ultrahuman Ring Air a popular device.
