Withings rolls out ScanWatch 2 update: What’s new in 3.0?

Withings has started rolling out firmware update for the ScanWatch 2, addressing several key areas of functionality. Version 3.0 of the software comes as a welcome surprise to users who have been patiently waiting for improvements, as updates for the ScanWatch 2 have been few and far between since its release.

The most notable enhancement in this update is the new and improved heart rate algorithm. Withings claims better precision for running, walking, and biking activities, along with improved overall performance and accuracy. This update also brings a refreshed heart rate user interface, potentially making it easier for users to interpret their data.

Several UI improvements have been implemented across the board. The workout interface has been enhanced, and the navigation UI has been reworked for better usability. A new watchface feature is now available in the settings menu, with the default set to “Large” mode for improved readability.

Cycle tracking has received attention in this update, with UI changes aimed at providing a clearer display of the user’s cycle state. So something for those who use ScanWatch 2 for menstrual health tracking.

Another addition is the new sleep view. This feature displays the duration of the last recorded sleep session directly on the device. If a user has both a ScanWatch 2 and a Sleep Analyzer, priority is given to the Sleep Analyzer data for nighttime recordings to ensure consistency.

You can read the full change-log on the Withings website. As always, this is a gradual update so may take a while before reaching users in all countries. In this UK it is already live and I managed to install it yesterday.

No HRV tracking yet

While these updates are certainly welcome, many users are still eagerly awaiting the activation of the HRV (Heart Rate Variability) tracking feature. Unfortunately, this was not included in the 3.0 update. Hopefully Withings will enable this feature in the near future.

As noted in my hands-on review, the ScanWatch 2 impresses with its blend of classic design and modern health technology. Its elegant appearance, comfortable wear, and long battery life make it a top option in this product category.
