Mobvoi announces Wear OS 4 update for TicWatch Pro 5 Series

Mobvoi has announced that Wear OS 4 will start rolling out to the TicWatch Pro 5 series, including both the TicWatch Pro 5 and TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro models, from early September.

The news is not entirely surprising. The company had kickstarted beta testing for Wear OS 4 on these watches back in April. The TicWatch Pro 5 was the first Mobvoi watch to debut with Wear OS 3. It will now be the first to pack Wear OS 4.

Key features of the Wear OS 4 update

So what sort of improvements can users expect?

Well, one of these is a new backup and restore functionality. This update will make it easier for users to transfer their watch to a new phone without needing a factory reset. A welcome addition.

Further more, the update promises more accurate movement tracking with enhanced TicMotion. Users can now see movement data on the Ultra Low Power Display during the pre-identification phase, allowing for better monitoring and more detailed exercise insights. TicExercise tracking also gets a boost with improved accuracy, 25 new workout modes and more.

Other changes include watch face customization and the side button can now be set to open a app of your choice. The default is the recent apps list.

To round things off, Mobvoi is adding multi-language translation enhancements, making the TicWatch Pro 5 series even more accessible to a global audience.

What to expect with the rollout

The update will be rolled out in phases in the coming weeks. Users will receive a notification directly on their watches when it hits their device. The staged rollout is a common thing – it ensures any issues are found before a large-scale update.

I recently had the opportunity to review the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro. The device brings some nice upgrades while keeping a familiar look, with a tougher sapphire crystal display, a thinner body, and a more comfortable strap. It still shines with its dual-display tech. Health tracking is solid, though it lacks heart rate variability and has occasional sleep tracking hiccups. The Android-only Mobvoi Health app is easy to use and even includes snore detection. Sports fans will like the accurate heart rate monitoring and workout modes, but distance tracking could be sharper. Overall, it’s one of the best Wear OS watches around with great battery life.

The Wear OS 4 rollout is great news for TicWatch Pro 5 owners. While Wear OS 5 is already on the horizon for some devices it makes sure their watch stays relevant and continues to deliver a modern, efficient user experience.
