Huawei’s Band 10 introduces mood tracking and better sleep data

Huawei’s Band 10 is here, and it’s got some decent upgrades over last year’s Band 9. A refreshed design, smarter sleep tracking, and even mood-related insights make it feel like a more polished fitness tracker.

Huawei has finally spilled the details on its latest budget wearable, the Band 10. While it’s still a simple fitness tracker, it’s packing a few nice improvements, especially in wellness tracking. The screen is the same 1.47-inch AMOLED as before, so no change there. But now you get a metal case and a bunch of new colours such as: luminous green, purple, pink, and blue. If you like a bit of variety, that’s a nice touch.

Sleep and mood tracking get an upgrade

Like previous Huawei bands, the Band 10 is all about health and fitness tracking. This time, though, it takes sleep monitoring a little more seriously. Using heart rate variability (HRV) data, it now gives more personalized sleep insights and even throws in suggestions to help you rest better. Such data can also be used to gauge your readiness to train.

One of the more interesting additions is the Emotional Wellbeing Assistant. The tracker keeps an eye on physiological changes throughout the day (probably through HRV data again) and can apparently reflect your mood by changing the watch face. If it works well, it could be a cool little feature—if not, it’s just another gimmick to scroll past. We suspect the later might be the case.

Battery life and what we still don’t know

Battery life is pretty much what you’d expect. With everything turned off, you can squeeze out 14 days. Normal use gets you around 8 days, and if you keep the Always-On Display running, you’ll be looking at around 3 days before needing a charge.

Now, the big question—how much is this thing going to cost? Huawei hasn’t said yet, but based on previous models, expect it to be around $50/£40. Also, there’s no official release date, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it drops sometime next month.

Essential readingTop fitness trackers and health gadgets

The Band 10 is going up against budget wearables like Xiaomi’s Smart Band 9 and Smart Band 9 Pro. The new wellness features and design refresh could make it a solid pick, but it really comes down to accuracy and ease of use. Huawei’s past trackers have been decent, but they’ve never quite matched pricier competitors in precision.
