Suunto app gets a fresh look in August beta update

Suunto has rolled out a refreshed app interface, currently available to iOS users enrolled in the beta program. Android users are left waiting for now, but a full public release is expected later this month.

A fresh interface with better structure

This version of the app focuses less on adding new features and more on reshaping the user experience. It starts with a redesigned map view that should feel a little more modern. Suunto has cleaned up the layout and made it easier to jump into popular routes.

The activities screen has also been broken out into its own section. Instead of being buried inside the dashboard, you can now swipe or tap to pull up your workout history directly.

The training zone gets some attention too. It hasn’t been overhauled, but it now presents your workout volume, recovery, and progress in a way that’s easier to interpret at a glance. Suunto’s coaching suggestions also remain in place. Longer time period views have been added, which should help with pacing weekly or monthly training blocks.

The profile section is now cleaner and better organised. You’ll still find your achievements and personal records, but the layout is now more organised.

More visual, more customisable

Perhaps the most useful change for some will be the homepage. It now offers more widget options and a layout that supports quick visual comparisons. You can pin the stats that matter most and glance at trends without digging through tabs.

It’s worth noting that the new UI still does not offer a dark mode. That’s a surprise given how frequently it’s been requested. Whether that’s in the works or not remains unclear, but for now the bright interface stays.

The redesign is only available for now through Apple’s TestFlight program. If you want to try it early, you’ll need to join the beta. Android users are left out for the moment, but the public release shouldn’t be far off. If all goes well, Suunto will probably roll it out to everyone later this month.
