Amazfit T-Rex 3 can run BioCharge if you trigger it this way

A Reddit user may have stumbled on an unusual but functional way to enable the BioCharge feature on the Amazfit T-Rex 3. It’s not officially supported, but this workaround suggests the hardware is already capable. The catch is that you need access to a Helio Strap to trigger the feature in the Zepp Health app.

A ZeppOS 5.0 exclusive feature appears on an older watch

The Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro ships with ZeppOS 5.0 and includes BioCharge, a new metric that offers a daily recovery score. The regular T-Rex 3, which launched earlier, runs on ZeppOS 4.5 and does not have BioCharge among its official features. Instead, it uses the old recovery metric.

Both watches use what appear to be the same sensors. So it was already unclear whether this omission was deliberate or simply a software limitation.

Now we have the first real-world hint that the feature can be unlocked. A Redditor claims they enabled BioCharge on their T-Rex 3 by temporarily pairing a Helio Strap to their Zepp Health app account.

The Helio Strap supports BioCharge by default. The user paired it for about half an hour, then returned to using the T-Rex 3. After that, the BioCharge feature remained active, pulling data from the T-Rex 3 even after the Helio Strap was no longer in use. Although, it did remain as one of the devices in the app.

You are not going to see the BioCharge score on the T-Rex 3 itself, as you are able to on the Pro version. But the score will update in the smartphone app.

What this means

This is a strong indicator that BioCharge is an app-side feature that only needs to be unlocked. This is something many users suspected.

It’s not the first time something like this has happened in Zepp Health’s ecosystem. Previously, VO2 Max and PAI rolled out inconsistently across devices with identical sensors.

There’s still no official word from Zepp Health on whether the T-Rex 3 will eventually receive BioCharge as a formal update. But this accidental activation suggests that ZeppOS 5.0 might not be a hard requirement. The app already has the code to support BioCharge calculations, and the T-Rex 3 hardware appears to generate the necessary inputs.
