Suunto Run update lands September 30 with new sport mode & Morning Report

Suunto is wrapping up its Q3 2025 update cycle with a new firmware for the Run watch, expected to arrive on September 30th. It adds a KM Vertical sport mode, planned workout screen, improved heart rate accuracy and new shortcuts, rounding out a month of steady feature drops.

What’s coming in the new update

The upcoming firmware gives structured training a boost with a new screen for planned workouts. A five-second countdown timer and out-of-range alert have been added to help guide users into the right intensity zones at the start of each interval.

KM Vertical is a new sport mode included in this release. It’s designed for activities focused on elevation gain rather than distance and works without relying on GPS. That makes it useful for vertical treadmill sessions, stair climbs or steep trails where satellite signal is unreliable or unnecessary.

The controls are getting more flexible too. Users will be able to assign shortcuts to the top and bottom buttons using a single press.

Suunto has also introduced a “Find my watch” feature that plays a sound from the device, helping locate it when misplaced. Another quality-of-life addition is Morning Report, a new screen that pops up after waking to show overnight recovery, training status and other helpful metrics.

Wrist-based heart rate tracking is being refined with a new algorithm aimed at improving accuracy. And for swimmers, the update enables support for the Suunto Aqua chest strap, allowing better tracking in the pool. As expected, the release also includes bug fixes and minor stability improvements.

Early September update set the stage

This latest firmware follows an earlier September update. That release added Ghost Runner pacing, reverse route navigation, customisable track running laps, and marathon mode layout tweaks. Suunto also updated the charging screen, added multiple daily alarms, and gave users the ability to silence activity sounds. A new orange watch face theme was included as well.

Suunto Run in context

Suunto Run launched in May 2025 and went on sale in early June. Priced at €249, it offers a focused set of tools for runners without the complexity of multisport tracking or offline maps. The watch has a 1.32 inch AMOLED screen, dual-band GNSS, and weighs just 36 grams with the textile strap. It includes 4GB of onboard music storage and features a simplified version of Suunto’s software that continues to grow through regular updates.
