Amazfit Active 2 Round updated to ZeppOS 5 with new features

Zepp Health has bumped the Active 2 (Round) up to ZeppOS 5.0, joining the Square version, Bip 6 and Balance 2 in the latest generation lineup. The change comes via a new firmware update, version 6.2.6.3. It is rolling out now.

The new firmware comes in at 12.93MB, as far as size. It includes a range of improvements, including the upgrade to Zepp Flow 2.0. While that’s the only major OS-level feature listed directly, checking the software settings after the update confirms the watch is now running ZeppOS 5.0.

Other additions are more hands-on. You can now drag maps with the touchscreen when navigating routes. Swimming heart rate tracking and sleep analysis have both been improved, which may help during more detailed recovery tracking.

There’s also a new Roxzone time-tracking option baked into Hyrox race mode. This expands the sport-specific toolkit on the device, which continues to grow with each update. Keyboard input now supports both QWERTY and AZERTY layouts, a practical fix for international users.

Also, you can now wake the watch with a single tap, and the Jet Lag Manager is supported as well. The final item on the changelog addresses a scheduling bug that prevented some users from completing an update.

The Active 2 still offers great value

Earlier this year, we reviewed the Amazfit Active 2 and came away impressed. At $99 for the standard version and $129 for the premium, it manages to deliver a full smartwatch experience without obvious compromises.

The design is sleek and lightweight, with a bright AMOLED display that’s easy to read in all conditions. It looks more expensive than it is, and feels comfortable for all-day wear. It tracks runs, workouts and daily health metrics with surprising accuracy. GPS locks in quickly and heart rate tracking is consistent even when compared against more premium wearables.

The Readiness Score still needs work. It’s an interesting idea but could benefit from simplification and better context. Presumably, this will get upgraded to the BioCharge feature in time. However this did not arrive with the ZeppOS 5 update. The other stats are reliable, and the battery life holds up well even with regular activity tracking.

All in all, this watch is a practical choice for more than just workouts. It feels like a fairly complete package that offers a lot of value for the price.
