Wear OS 5 now rolling out to Xiaomi Watch 2 with July security patch
As they say – better late than never! Xiaomi has started rolling out Wear OS 5.0 to the Watch 2. The update includes Android 14 and the July 2025 security patch, and while it looks similar to the previous version, performance has improved.
A familiar rollout pattern
Watch 2 owners have seen this pattern before. The Wear OS 4 update last September arrived without much notice and landed later than it did for many other brands. It brought a few subtle interface changes and behind-the-scenes improvements, but most of it flew under the radar.
Wear OS 5 follows that same path. The user interface looks largely unchanged. Fonts, icons, and menus are all where you left them. But after installing the update, you should notice that everything feels just a bit more responsive.

The update is being distributed in phases. Users in Mexico and some other countries have received it.
If you have not been notified about the new software yet, you can try to trigger it manually. Open Settings, then go to System > About, and tap repeatedly the small watch icon located above the system version text. If the update is available in your region, you will see a prompt asking you to connect the device to its charger. If nothing happens, it probably has not rolled out to your area yet.

What’s inside the update
Wear OS 5.0 brings Xiaomi’s smartwatch in line with the latest version of Google’s platform. Along with it comes Android 14 and the July 2025 security patch. The changes are mostly under the surface.
Let’s hope this software refresh avoids the compatibility problems that followed the last one. When Wear OS 4 landed, some users noticed Pixel watch faces no longer worked. So far, nothing similar has been reported with this release, although it is early days. As always, results may vary depending on your setup.
There is no official confirmation yet on whether the Watch 2 Pro is receiving this firmware, but based on past behaviour, it likely will. Xiaomi pushed Wear OS 4 to both models in parallel, and there is no reason to think that has changed.
If your Watch 2 feels snappier lately, you are not imagining it. Just don’t expect fireworks.
