Pebble 2 Duo production begins as waterproofing gets a boost

Pebble fans have reason to celebrate. Just days after the Pebble Time 2 design reveal, the company has confirmed that Pebble 2 Duo has entered mass production, and the first units are only weeks away from reaching early supporters. Also, there’s some good news about water-proofing.

Pebble 2 Duo finally enters production

This is a big step forward for Pebble’s revival project. After months of testing, tweaking and fixing, Pebble says the hardware and software are finally locked in and the watch is ready for large-scale production. Over 100 beta testers helped put the prototypes through their paces, uncovering several issues that have now been resolved.

Pebble isn’t declaring victory just yet, though. Manufacturing thousands of units takes time, and the company warns there could still be delays along the way. Even so, hitting this milestone means we’re closer than ever to seeing Pebble 2 Duo out in the wild.

Shipping timeline and batches

So when should those with purchases expect their device? Well, the first 300 to 500 units are scheduled to leave the warehouse in mid-September, going to the earliest “Batch 1 – July” customers. A larger second wave will follow at the end of September, while “Batch 2 – August” pre-orders are lined up for October.

Delivery is expected to take about a week once your watch ships. Pebble says you’ll soon receive an email to confirm your order details, merge multiple pre-orders if you have them and add extras like straps or charging dongles. You can even switch to Pebble Time 2 if you change your mind before the order locks.

Waterproofing improvements

Those awaiting their units will be happy to know there’s a waterproofing update. Pebble 2 Duo now carries a 20-meter water resistance rating thanks to design tweaks and a more rigorous testing process. Rain, handwashing and brief submersion won’t be an issue, but Pebble stresses that this isn’t a dive watch. Hot tubs, long swims and high-pressure water are still best avoided.

Each watch now goes through a pressurised air test before being submerged. Early prototypes struggled, with bubbles escaping from the speaker housing, but the redesigned seals hold up much better in the current production units.

What buyers should know

Pebble 2 Duo keeps the experience close to what fans remember from the original lineup. You still get the e-paper display, long battery life, button-based controls and access to the entire library of watch faces and apps. The new charging dongle has been redesigned with portability in mind, and the backlight and built-in speaker have both seen improvements.

At launch, battery life is around two weeks on current software, but Pebble says its roadmap targets up to four weeks with future optimisations. For health tracking, expect basic steps and sleep monitoring, while more advanced fitness and GPS tracking remain better handled by devices like Garmin watches.

All things considered, the revival project is moving nicely along. Pebble 2 Duo is now one step away from hitting the wrists of early supporters, with Pebble Time 2 to follow later.
