Huawei Watch GT 5 firmware adds HRV and better sleep tracking
Huawei is rolling out firmware 5.1.0.26 to the Watch GT 5. The heart rate app now shows HRV readings, adds new measurement animations, and displays separate views for exercise and recovery heart rate. Sleep tracking has also been improved. A HarmonyOS 6 update is also on the way for Watch Fit 4.
A deeper look at heart rate tracking
The most noticeable change is inside the Heart Rate app. It now includes heart rate variability (HRV) data, alongside updated measurement animations and a clearer presentation of recovery and exercise stats. This makes it easier to view the impact of daily workouts over time. The layout has been adjusted to feel more complete, with extra content sprinkled in to help the user experience feel less barebones.
The update also improves sleep tracking, though Huawei hasn’t gone into much detail. Based on the changelog, this looks more like an optimisation pass than a full overhaul. Still, any boost to accuracy or stability in sleep data will be appreciated by users.

This firmware, version 5.1.0.26, weighs in at just 38.37 MB and is already live in some regions for download through the Huawei Health app. Just make sure Bluetooth stays connected during the update process.
It’s worth noting that the Watch GT 6 made its debut around two months ago. That one is now Huawei’s flagship wearable, and it goes big on cycling and battery. But the company hasn’t left GT 5 users behind. This latest update shows there’s still some software attention going toward the previous generation.
HarmonyOS 6 is coming to Watch Fit 4 Series soon
Looking ahead, Huawei is prepping HarmonyOS 6 for the Watch Fit 4 Series. While the full changelog hasn’t landed yet, the update is expected to focus on refining the overall feel of the interface. That likely includes smoother animations, faster transitions, along with a more responsive system.
If Huawei follows the same playbook used on its other HarmonyOS 6 devices, there’s also a good chance we’ll see some improvements to AI features and tighter integration across the ecosystem. Think more seamless syncing between your watch, phone and earbuds.
The rollout window is expected to start sometime between November and December 2025. This puts the Watch Fit 4 Series alongside other HarmonyOS 6 upgrades like the upcoming MatePad refresh and FreeBuds Pro 4.
