CMF Watch may be getting a serious running update
CMF posted a teaser image to X showing a pixel-style running figure and the phrase “Run with Time.” The shape around the runner looks like a rounded square, which might make you think a new watch is on the way. But when you look at the timing and the overall style, this feels a lot more like a software update than a brand-new device.
Our guess is that this is probably an upgrade for the existing CMF Watch Pro 2 and Watch 3 Pro, not a return to the old square form factor. The post was taken down shortly after it went live, so it looks like someone hit publish too early. Luckily, we grabbed a screenshot before it disappeared.
The shape is likely part of the UI
The teaser uses a design language that mirrors CMF’s existing OS style, built around dot-matrix aesthetics and rectangular widgets. The square outline in the teaser is probably a digital frame for a new glance card or workout screen.
Square outlines are often used in software to present training information in a readable, structured way, even on round displays. Garmin and Apple Watch both display rectangular fields on round faces. CMF already uses modular layouts in its watch interface, so this design fits within the current ecosystem.
The hardware release cycle doesn’t support a new watch
The CMF Watch 3 Pro launched recently in July 2025. The brand typically works on a yearly release cycle, so a second hardware release only five months later would be out of sync with previous launches. There are also no signs of regulatory activity that normally precedes a new device launch, such as listings in India’s BIS or Singapore’s IMDA databases.
That lack of filings is significant. Nothing Group, which owns CMF, usually doesn’t manage to keep hardware secrets this well. Upcoming devices tend to leak through supply chain certifications weeks in advance. This hasn’t happened, which makes the likelihood of a new watch being announced at the upcoming December 9 Community Edition event very slim.
Run with Time suggests a pacer feature
The animation and text focus clearly on running. The trail of white dots behind the pixel figure implies movement through time, perhaps referencing a virtual pacer mode. This is a tool used by runners to stick to a target pace, visually showing whether you are ahead or behind that goal.
Brands like Garmin, Polar and Coros have used virtual pacers for years. Adding this to the CMF lineup would be a logical step as the company tries to position its wearables as more than just lifestyle devices. It would turn the Watch 3 Pro into a slightly more serious tool for training.
A software rollout makes more sense
While the focus of the December 9th event is expected to be the Phone 3a, the company often uses these announcements to push software updates across its product lines. CMF’s teaser arriving just days ahead of the event suggests this running-focused update could be part of a broader seasonal rollout.
This feels like a good moment to drop new firmware for the Watch Pro 2 and Watch Pro 3, especially if it includes something like a Virtual Pacer feature. The timing of the teaser, combined with the complete lack of model numbers or certifications, makes a software update seem way more likely than new hardware.
