Apple Watch World Meditation Day challenge lands on December 21st
World Meditation Day is taking place this Sunday, December 21st. To commemorate the occasion, Apple is offering a unique limited edition challenge for Apple Watch users alongside resources to deepen their meditation practice.
While Apple previously celebrated this event in May, the date was officially moved to December 21 by the United Nations General Assembly. This new date coincides with the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. It marks a time when days are short and nights are long which serves as a fitting moment to turn inward. Which is why we are getting this Apple challenge now.

World Meditation Day serves as a gentle reminder to pause, connect with our inner selves, and cultivate a sense of peace and clarity amidst our busy lives. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned meditator or simply curious about exploring mindfulness. Taking a few moments each day to focus on your breath and quiet your mind can be beneficial to your overall well-being.
Just 5 minutes of meditation is required on the day
This World Meditation Day challenge will appear on Apple Watches starting December 19. To earn the shiny badge and a series of animated stickers for the Messages app, Apple Watch users simply need to record a minimum of five minutes of mindfulness on December 21 using the Mindfulness app. The other option is to use any other app that integrates with the Health app’s mindfulness tracking feature. The task actually doesn’t sound very challenging.

The benefits of meditation extend far beyond a momentary sense of calm. Research has shown that regular meditation practice can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also improve sleep quality, enhance focus and concentration, boost creativity, and even strengthen the immune system. So, whether you’re a dedicated meditator or simply curious about exploring mindfulness, this Sunday is the perfect day to embrace the stillness.
Apple’s commitment to mindfulness doesn’t stop at the challenge. The Mindfulness app provides a wealth of resources for beginners and experienced meditators alike. This includes guided meditations, breathing exercises, and tips for cultivating a mindful lifestyle. For those seeking a deeper dive, Apple Fitness+ offers a variety of meditation classes led by experienced instructors.
