There are two versions of the lamp, Olly Day and Olly Night. They both emit specific wavelengths of light to achieve their respective goals.
The first keeps you up, gives you energy and boosts productivity by mimicking sunlight. The company says Olly Day can provide as much energy as an espresso shot and in as little as 20 minutes. You’ll experience the effects of natural light while being able to go about your day.
The night option emits wavelengths that encourages melatonin production, thus countering the effect of being exposed to too much artificial lighting. This in turn helps to reset your circadian rhythm. Olly Night emits a 1800K warm color temperature and automatically turns off in 30 minutes. It sounds like it could also be useful for those that like to practice meditation.
Each device is small so can be easily carried around with you. To use simply place it on its magnetic lid and tilt the light as needed. Best of all you don’t need a wall outlet as there is a chargeable battery that can run for up to six hours. Ideal for use in the office when coffee isn’t enough to keep you awake and focused.
The gizmo is off to a good start on Kickstarter and is five times up on its rather modest $5,000 goal. A pledge of $39 is enough for an Olly Day or Olly Night. For that, you also get a little carrying punch. If all goes according to plan with production, the delivery will be complete by October 2020.
