Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro comes full to the brim with health & fitness features

Huawei has expanded its wearable range yesterday with Watch GT 3 Pro. For now only available in China, the device comes full to the brim with health and fitness features including ECG and a new diving mode.

The watch comes as an updated version of Watch GT 3 which was released internationally in October 2021. The Pro version was unveiled at a launch event yesterday alongside the next iteration of Huawei’s flagship fitness tracker dubbed Band 7.

Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro – what’s new?

Unlike last year’s non-Pro variant which comes in a 46mm (45.9 mm x 45.9 mm x 11 mm) and 42mm (42.3 mm x 42.3 mm x 10.2 mm) stainless steel body option, the Pro offers a choice between a 46mm (46.6 x 46.6 x 10.9 mm) and 43mm model (42.9 x 42.9 x 10.5 mm ). The first comes in titanium, the second in a ceramic body.

The sapphire glass AMOLED display sizes, however, remain the same. So you get 1.43 inches (466 x 466 pixels) for the larger variant and 1.32 inches (466 x 466 pixels) for the smaller one. The same is the case for the rotatable crown push button configuration – they stay the same.

So what’s new?

A major upgrade this time around is ECG functionality. This means you can use the device to check your hear’s rhythm and electrical activity on-demand. The feature has received the nod of approval from Chinese regulatory authorities, making the watch a certifiied second-class medical device.

There are lots of other health and fitness features, too. This includes all-day heart rate, stress, activity, sleep, blood oxygen monitoring, body temperature detection and more. It is probably the most complete list of sensors we’ve come across on a smartwatch. How well they work in practice remains to be seen.

It will also be interesting to see how long it takes the company to secure the necessary regulatory approvals for other countries. This process can be quite tricky for features such as ECG.

As far as sports, you get support for around 100 exercise modes and built-in sattelite connectivity. 18 of these are “professional” modes with detailed statistics, the stats for others consist largely of similar metrics. An interesting addition is a Golf sports mode which comes with more than 300 courses pre-loaded. The watch also comes with support for a “free diving” mode, thanks to its IP68, 5 ATM, diving (maximum depth 30 meters) water-resistance rating.

Of course, Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro runs the latest version of HarmonyOS. There’s a speaker and microphone on-board for smartphone call and notification support, along with NFC for mobile payments. The thing can also double-up as your car key.

Battery life is not too shabby. Huawei claims a fortnight of battery life with typical usage for the larger model (8 days for heavy users). The smaller watch should keep going for about a week (4 days with heavy use). Huawei says the charge speed has been upped by 30% – a 10 minute rest on the charging cradle is enough to last you a full day.

Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro price and availability

The 43mm Watch GT 3 Pro with ceramic frame runs at 2488 Yuan ($375), while the 46mm model with the titanium frame has a 2688 Yuan ($405) price-tag. There’s also a fancy Porsche Design model which starts at 4,700 yuan ($710). Pre-orders are open in China with shipping commencing on May 5th.
