RingConn Gen 2 update simplifies Sleep Apnea tracking
RingConn Gen 2 has just rolled out an impressive update which greatly simplifies how users assess their risk of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). The ring has become a crowdfunding sensation with over $4 million raised on Kickstarter
Previously, you needed to start Sleep Apnea tracking manually. And keep the app open and the smartphone next to your bedside at night. The new feature is a much better solution – as there is nothing really for you to do except switch on the comprehensive assessment. And ensure your ring has more than 30% battery life and sync data once a day. It’s that simple.
The magic behind the scenes
The heart of this update is the new ‘Comprehensive Assessment’ mode. When activated, the ring becomes a silent sentinel, automatically detecting when you drift off and beginning its OSA measurements.
In a notable improvement, the ring now offers a three-night average assessment alongside the single-night option. This extended view provides a more nuanced picture of your sleep patterns, potentially catching irregularities that might slip through in a single night’s data.
For those found to be at high risk, the ring suggests using “Daily Automatic Mode,” keeping a constant eye on your sleep patterns. If you’re lucky enough to be in the low-risk or no-risk category, you can still opt for occasional check-ins using the “Automatic Monitor Once” feature.
Data synchronization happens when you open the app and connect to the ring. However, given the wealth of OSA data collected, this process might take 2-5 minutes. And you will probably notice that the ring uses up a bit more battery life when the feature is switched on.

Forgot to sync? No worries. The ring holds onto the last OSA data until it’s safely transferred to the app. Plus, your daily health stats like heart rate and step count are stored separately, so they’re safe even if the OSA sync hits a snag.
A user’s perspective
I have tried out the 3 day assessment and was genuinely impressed with the detail of the stats. The process is a breeze. Come bedtime, there is no need to fiddle with your phone or the ring. It just works.
Upon waking, you open the app, tap the sleep apnea section, and watch as the data is downloaded from the ring. My first night showed an AHI of 1.1 (mild), and 3.0 for the second (also mild), with no abnormalities detected. I still have one more reading to go.
As mentioned, this has become the most crowdfunded smart ring ever. You can check out their Kickstarter campaign if you want it. Shipping to backers is expected to start in the coming days.
