OnePlus teases mystery smartwatch launch for mid-December
OnePlus has confirmed plans for another smartwatch launch before 2025 wraps up. The company’s website now includes references to a “OnePlus New Watch” that could debut as soon as December 17 alongside the OnePlus 15R smartphone and an unannounced tablet.
The confirmation comes through a landing page for a promotional campaign rather than a traditional announcement. Buried in the terms and conditions of a “subscribe to save” giveaway running for a month from November 17, participants can win vouchers for upcoming devices including this mystery smartwatch. The voucher redemption period kicks off on December 17, which points to a coordinated global launch event on that date.
What We Know About the Device
The branding gives almost nothing away. “OnePlus New Watch” reads more like a placeholder than a final product name, offering zero hints about what the device actually looks like or what features it might pack. OnePlus only released OnePlus Watch 3 at the start of this year, followed by a smaller 43mm variant, so another watch appearing this quickly raises questions about positioning.
Two Likely Scenarios
The most straightforward explanation involves Oppo, OnePlus’s parent company. Oppo launched the Watch S in China about a month ago, and hardware sharing between the two brands happens regularly. That device measures just 8.9mm thick, making it slimmer than the current OnePlus Watch 3. It can also take ECG measurements. A global rebrand would give OnePlus another option in its lineup without requiring entirely new hardware development.
The alternative is that this could be an early iteration of a OnePlus Watch 4, though that timeline feels compressed even by modern product cycle standards. OnePlus typically spaces its smartwatch releases further apart, and launching a numbered successor mere months after the Watch 3 would represent an unusual shift in strategy.
What Happens Next
The December 17 date gives OnePlus less than a month to provide actual details about the watch. The company will likely need to reveal specifications, pricing, and availability windows well before that redemption period begins, especially if customers are meant to use vouchers on launch day. Until then, the vague “New Watch” designation keeps everyone guessing about whether this is a rebranded Oppo device, a surprise Watch 4, or something else entirely.
The simultaneous launch of the OnePlus 15R and a new tablet suggests the company is planning a broader hardware refresh rather than a standalone smartwatch event. That context might help clarify where this mystery watch fits in the overall product lineup once official announcements start rolling out.
