The Pebble Time 2 gets its near-final look

The design for Pebble Time 2 is out and it brings a more refined metal build. You can now see how the steel case, flat glass and extra sensors come together. The whole thing looks just – better.

Pebble’s long‑awaited revival gets a fresh coat of steel

Pebble is officially Pebble again, and the Time 2 design makes that clear. The trademark recently came back into the hands of its original creator, and the new version embraces Pebble roots while smoothing out its look.

According to Eric Migicovsky’s blog post, the case front and back are now stainless steel. As shown in the image below – you will be able to pick between four different colours: silver, black, blue and red. The overall impression is that the steel build and subdued curves keep it looking familiar. The same basic look, but more premium.

On the sides are four matching buttons (one on the left, three on the right), echoing past Pebble Steel builds. The buttons have been updated, though, with a more textured finish for better grip. At the front, the flat hardened glass cuts reflections and rounds off the edges.

Inside the metal shell there’s more than just good looks. The display is still a 1.5‑inch e‑paper touch panel in 64 colors, and a multicolor RGB LED backlight adds flexibility in low light.

Sensors include a second microphone, for environmental noise cancellation, and a compass. You also get the essentials: a heart rate monitor, speaker, step and sleep tracking, quick‑release 22 mm strap, and a 30‑day battery life estimate. The case retains its screw-mounted back and is water resistant, with IPX8 the current working minimum.

Some informal thoughts

Worth noting is that these are still engineering prototypes. Which means the final product may be subject to change. For example, the screws are not totally confirmed to make final production. But that small detail would make these watches easily serviceable.

Looking at the video below, the thing feels like a watch someone involved still wears daily. It is an attractive design. The small bezels and flat surface point to care for glance‑ability. The RGB backlight might sound minor but could make nighttime use easier. And keeping things lightweight while adding steel is smart.

Going forward it’s worth watching how the pre‑order feedback shapes what gets made. The Pebble 2 Duo is expected to begin shipping in late August. The Pebble Time 2 is scheduled to follow in December.
