How to set up & use Zepp Pay on Amazfit watches

The recently launched Amazfit Active 2 comes equipped with an NFC chip, enabling it to execute contactless transactions through Zepp Pay. Here’s everything you need to know about the new feature.

The Zepp Pay functionality was introduced with the launch of the Amazfit Balance, back in 2023. Prior to that, some earlier models packed an NFC chip – however this only worked in China. After the Amazfit Balance, the T-Rex 3 was the next device to come with proper Zepp Pay functionality. And now we have the Amazfit Active 2 – but only the premium version of that watch.

When it comes to contactless payment solutions in wearable tech, other manufacturers have their own offerings. Garmin, for instance, has had Garmin Pay for a while now. Apple Watch users can utilize Apple Pay, which is deeply integrated into the iOS ecosystem and offers a seamless payment experience. Samsung also has Samsung Pay on its Galaxy smartwatches, which even supports Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST), allowing it to work with traditional card readers.

Now we have Zepp Health, slowly catching up. However, their payment feature only works in Europe and a few other regions. So if you live in North America, for now, you are out of luck. Zepp Pay is not supported there.

How to use Zepp Pay

As you’d expect, the NFC (Near-Field Communication) chip is the cornerstone of the Zepp Pay functionality. This is what enables the watch to perform financial transactions.

The Zepp Pay contactless payment system was developed through a partnership between Zepp Health and Mastercard. The service allows you to add up to eight bank cards. This makes Zepp Pay a flexible option for those who have accounts with multiple banks. It’s worth noting, the basic plan has a limit of two cards and you need to pay a subscription for further cards.

Before you can use Zepp Pay, you need to activate the off-wrist lock function on your compatible Amazfit smartwatch. This is a crucial step to ensure the security of your transactions. Otherwise, if you lose your watch – anyone can use it until you suspend your account!

To do this, open the Zepp App and navigate to Profile > Select your watch in Devices > Device Settings. This is where you will find the Band Lock option.

The next step is to set up a passcode. This is necessary in order to lock the band when it is removed from your wrist.

Alternative options: Using Curve as an alternative

Zepp Pay is currently supported in over 30 countries, including Austria, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, among others. As mentioned, no support for the US at the moment. You can find the full list of countries on this page.

In terms of bank compatibility, it works with a range of banks such as Raiffeisenbank in the Czech Republic and Intesa Sanpaolo in Italy. If your bank isn’t supported, the Curve option serves as a universal workaround, making Zepp Pay accessible to a broader audience.

What is Curve?

For those not in the know, Curve is a financial service that acts as a digital smart-wallet. It allows you to consolidate multiple bank cards into a single card. This is particularly advantageous for those who manage multiple accounts or frequently deal with different currencies. One of its standout features is “Go Back in Time,” which gives you the power to switch payments from one card to another even after the transaction has been made. This level of control over your spending is unprecedented and offers a unique way to manage your finances.

Beyond its primary function as a financial aggregator, Curve offers a range of other features that enhance the user experience. For instance, it provides the ability to earn cashback on top of the rewards you already receive from your other cards. You can even opt to earn your cashback in cryptocurrency. When it comes to travel, Curve eliminates foreign transaction fees, allowing you to use any card anywhere in the world. The service also offers “Anti-Embarrassment Mode,” which saves you from declines by having backup cards ready to step in automatically. Moreover, Curve provides robust security features, including live notifications for every purchase and the ability to lock your card instantly.

To utilize Curve, begin by downloading and launching the Curve application on your mobile device. Input your mobile phone number to initiate the setup process, followed by the creation of a secure password. Proceed to enter your personal information, including your name and email address. Finally, provide a physical address that matches a registered ID for verification purposes. This completes the initial setup, making your Curve account ready for use. Then simply add your Curve details into Zepp Pay.

By integrating the two services, you essentially bring all these features into the Zepp ecosystem. This should help to make your Amazfit smartwatch a more encompassing tool for financial management.
